Common mistakes in semiconductor vacuum calculations

Most calculation errors are not formula mistakes—they are wrong units, wrong regime, or wrong assumptions. Below are patterns seen when engineers use vacuum and flow tools without cross-checking.

Top mistakes

  • mTorr vs mbar: Three-order error in pressure. Use Pressure Converter before entering PLC limits.

Worked example — End-to-end check for pressure not reaching target

  1. Pumping Speed: Q from total sccm, P measured → S required.

  3. Throughput: rate-of-rise q_L if leak suspected.
  4. Outgassing: if S_eff OK but base still high.
